Ajax show interest in Alves.

Byline: ERIC PAYLOR

DUTCH giants Ajax Amsterdam may try to end Afonso Alves' Teesside nightmare.

Alves' representatives have held talks with Ajax, who are interested in taking the Brazilian back to Holland.

Alves was a prolific scorer with Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.

While Ajax are interested, they have not yet approached Boro to make an offer for the 28-year-old.

Alves has attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere, though the only bid that Boro have received so far is from Qatari side Al Saad.

However the amount of interest suggests that Alves will definitely be leaving before the transfer window closes on January 31.

Tuncay is also likely to move on, and Boro are wait-into see if Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill renews his interest in the Turk.

Villa lost 2-0 at home to Wigan Wigan (wĭg`ən), city (1991 pop. 88,725) and metropolitan district, N England, located in the Manchester metropolitan area on the Douglas River.  on Saturday and O'Neill, currently suffering from a spate of injuries, is keen to increase the size of his squad this month.
