Airvana Official Press Statement -- March 17, 2003: Airvana Embraces Verizon Wireless' Announcement Supporting CDMA2000 1xEV-DO.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 2003
Statement: Commenting on today's announcement regarding
Verizon Wireless' decision to launch CDMA2000
1xEV-DO commercial service in San Diego, and
Washington D.C., Airvana CEO Randy Battat
said: "We view Verizon Wireless' commitment to
launching CDMA2000 1xEV-DO as a positive step
toward the global adoption of 1xEV-DO as the
principal standard for 3G services.
"With its high-data speeds, cost- and
time-effective implementation and upgrade
paths, as well as dynamic applications and
readily available devices, 1xEV-DO is ready
to expand into new markets that demand 3G
services for use in mobile and fixed-wireless
environments.
"Verizon Wireless and other CDMA operators have
a unique advantage: the ability to deploy a
broadband data service that represents an
incremental investment on their voice service,
as opposed to starting from scratch. Broadband
data brings compelling new service offerings
that consumers can readily appreciate, such as
high-speed Internet access and video on
demand. Verizon Wireless' commitment will
further advance their lead in the market."
