Airspan to Provide Wireless Local Loop Services to Mobitel Subscribers in Nigeria; Warri Region of Nigeria to Benefit from Voice and High-Speed Data Services.


LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1999--

Airspan Communications Ltd., a market leader in fixed wireless telecommunications, today announces a contract with Mobitel, a Lagos, Nigeria-based telecommunications operator, to deploy a wireless local loop (WLL See wireless local loop and PHS-WLL. ) network in the Warri region of Nigeria.

The network will provide a full range of voice and data services to residences and businesses in the region.

Using Airspan's AS4000 broadband CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  system, Mobitel will initially deploy 4,500 high-quality residential and business telephony lines, together with a number of 64 kbps high-speed data services and a payphone payphone
