Airports brace for millions of summer travelers. Travelers should expect a crowded, hectic experience at airports this summer. The Air Transport Association expects about 207 million fliers to travel through U.S. airports this summer. Albany, Norfolk airports add machines to detect explosives. Albany (N.Y.) International and Norfolk (Va.) International airports are adding explosives detection machines. The machines handle travelers and baggage. Predictions are the long-awaited fifth parallel runway that just debuted at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International will boost arrival and departure rates by 25 to 35 percent. If the numbers bear out, that would be terrific news for flyers who frequent the planet's busiest aerodrome. Jun 12, 2006

Although some stockholders frown at a "slow" rate of recovery from years of depressed prices, most signs point to returned profitability in Bombardier's aircraft and rail sectors. Cyprus

Cyprus is to have its two major airports redeveloped, a E622m plan announced last week which should see both Larnaca and Paphos totally transformed and expanded into high tech terminals offering the latest modern facilities and enhanced amenities for travelers. Larnaca will be on a new site 2 km west of the current terminal with a capacity of 9m passengers, whilst Paphos is to be rebuilt close to the present accommodation with a 2.7m target. Dallas/Fort Worth, American Airlines

American has just widened the baggage check-in cutoff window at Dallas/Fort Worth. Used to be the cutoff was 30 minutes prior to departure. Now it's 40 minutes. Seems flyers have been checking their luggage with American in new International Terminal D, and then riding the Skylink train to their departure terminal.  will give up six Concourse A gates now used for Ted operations; Ted will move to Concourse B and use five of those dual loading bridges now being installed. For its part, Frontier will lease the newly available A gates to supplement the 16 gates it already has on that concourse. This all is going to cost DIA, though. In return for getting those six Concourse A gates from United, DIA will build a $41.5 million Regional Jet facility at the east end of Concourse B. In addition, get this: DIA will pay off the remaining $110 million debt for that infamous automated-baggage system equipment that UAL stopped using last year.
