Airlines to use cockpit simulators for taxi training: As part of a larger effort by the industry to prevent runway incursions, airlines have agreed to use their cockpit simulators to train pilots to taxi, the FAA said Wednesday. The training will be in addition to regular simulation training already in place. Aug 16, 2007

FAA announces five steps to improve runway safety. The FAA and aviation industry groups including the Air Transport Association have agreed on five steps that should immediately help reduce runway incidents. The TSA this fall will launch Secure Flight, a new system for matching the names of airline passengers against names on the terrorist watch list. The TSA will take over screening passenger lists from airlines and alert the carriers if there are any matches. The TSA said the new system will reduce the number of false matches. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport began taking steps to improve customer service in 2000, said Jeff Fegan, chief executive of the airport. Fegan said the airport addressed many customer concerns through its capital improvement plan. He noted that the airport's SkyLink system that links terminals is now the best large hub connect system in the world. The airport continues to add shopping and dining venues throughout the airport terminals, and is now spending $45 million to upgrade restrooms. Aug 15, 2007

New technology developed by Honeywell Aerospace and Sensis will transmit conflict alerts provided to air traffic controllers to cockpits of affected aircraft almost simultaneously. Executives say they are demonstrating the technology but have not launched a new product. The technology will alert pilots to conflicts with other planes and ground vehicles at airports.
