London BAA

Britain's aviation regulator on Thursday signaled a significant reduction in the returns it will allow UK airport operator BAA when it sets new price caps on airline charges at London airports from 2008. ) said it was looking at a "marked reduction" in BAA's cost of capital, or the rate of return it can earn on investments, from the 7.75 percent allowed currently. Spanish company Ferrovial owns BAA. The CAA is to set out an initial ruling next month on the prices BAA can charge airlines using London's Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick airports under the next five year regulatory period, running from 2008 to 2013. BAA's cost of capital is a key factor the CAA uses when it sets the charges. British Airways has asked the CAA to cut BAA's allowed cost of capital to 5.6 percent. The CAA said it would set out its thinking on price caps in full in December. Nov 23, 2006
