While there was considerable demand for wireless broadband in the area, it was not being offered by incumbent providers. Ubiquitair, which is rolling out wireless networks all along Maine's busy southern coast, is also providing Wi-Fi service to numerous hospitality venues and Metro hot zones. Additionally, Ubiquitair is providing wireless Ethernet service to Southern Maine residents and businesses at speeds up to 10 Mbps.

"Wireless providers understand that a large amount of deployment time could be spent setting up and testing the complex administration and billing systems that support revenue generation," said Olivia Hecht, director of marketing for Airpath. "WiBOSS Metro provides a tried-and-true platform for these critical components so that metro networks like this one can be up and running in minutes, once the hardware infrastructure has been deployed."

WiBOSS Metro is a hosted, hardware-neutral, web-based platform that helps operators manage hot zones and retail metro networks. WiBOSS Metro performs all critical business tasks for WISPs such as subscriber management, provisioning, billing, authentication, authorization, accounting, report generation, and network management within a single application. Full customer support for providers and end users is available via Airpath's 24x7x365 carrier-neutral facility. Additionally, if a wireless provider using WiBOSS Metro decides to shift from a purely retail model to a retail and wholesale model, the migration path to Airpath's RoamBOSS Metro- the only such solution in the industry - is easy.
