Aeroflot, Aeroflot-Don

Aeroflot announced that it increased its share in its OJSC OJSC Open Joint Stock Company  Aeroflot-Don subsidiary from 51% to 100%. Aeroflot-Don, based in Rostov-on-Don, carried 600,000 passengers in 2006 and has a fleet of 15 aircraft including 737-500s and Tu-154s. Jan 15, 2007

British Airways to lower fuel surcharges on long flights. British Airways says it will reduce fuel surcharges on many long flights, including several flights to the eastern U.S. The carrier is maintaining the surcharges on flights of nine hours or more. LTU German Airlines wants to take over certain Latin American routes American Routes is a public radio program hosted by Nick Spitzer that explores connections between the many musical styles that have blossomed in the United States. It began in the late 1990s, and normally originates from studios in the French Quarter of New Orleans,  belonging to Air Madrid Air Madrid Líneas Aéreas S.A. was a private airline based in Madrid in Spain operating services to Spain, Tenerife, Mexico, South America, Central America, Europe and Israel. , which shut down operations Dec. 15, but an LTU spokesperson said that the airline does not plan to take over the bankrupt Spanish carrier despite rumors to the contrary. Spanish transport authorities reportedly said that LTU also plans to absorb 568 Air Madrid employees, some 52% of the total, as part of its plan to create a subsidiary named LTU Espana within six months. LTU said that is not the case, but it did confirm its interest in AM's transatlantic network. It appears interested in routes to Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica Costa Rica (kŏs`tə rē`kə), officially Republic of Costa Rica, republic (2005 est. pop. 4,016,000), 19,575 sq mi (50,700 sq km), Central America.  and Panama but not Brazil or Colombia. The German carrier currently operates 11 A320-200s, four A321-200s, eight A330-200s and three A330-300s. It transported around 5.6 million passengers in 2005. Jan 10, 2007

Malev Hungarian, American Airlines

Malev Hungarian Airlines and American Airlines this week signed a codeshare and frequent-flier program harmonization agreement. From the summer timetable, AA will add its code to Malev's New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 JFK flight as well as numerous other services to Eastern Europe and Balkan destinations. MA's code will appear on several domestic flights operated by AA. Malev will join oneworld this year. Jan 11, 2007

Silverjet, Luton Airport

Silverjet, a UK startup that will offer all-business-class flights between London Luton and Newark beginning next month, said it reached agreement with Luton Airport to build a separate terminal that will be modeled after a private jet facility and enable it to check in and board passengers in just 30 min. The airline said there will be "no check-in desks" in the new terminal. It explained in a statement that passengers will "drop their luggage with a concierge on arrival" and then go to the "Silver Lounge," where check-in will take place "if customers have not already checked in via Internet or telephone."
