Check-In rules have been highlighted by a judge in Bradford. He dismissed a prosecution brought by a family against Jet2.com after not making their flight due to arriving late at check-in. They had already missed a train from Yorkshire causing the delay. The judge ruled that the family had not allowed enough time to check-in for the flight. Alitalia

Alitalia said its acquisition of Volare remains valid despite the state council's ruling and it "is confident that these irregularities can be resolved soon, as they do not challenge the validity of Alitalia's offer or the administrator's decision that it was the highest." Alitalia bid [euro]38 million ($48.8 million) for the group, bettering Air One's offer by [euro]10 million. Alitalia's acquisition of Volare is also subject to approval by Italy's antitrust authority, which has until May 28 to either clear the deal or decide on a more detailed examination. Alitalia's acquisition of the assets of bankrupt Volare Group was suspended yesterday by Italy's top administrative court, AFX AFX atypical fibroxanthoma.  reported. The state council supported an appeal by Air One, which argued that the flag carrier should not have been allowed to bid for Volare because of its precarious financial position and for antitrust reasons. Austrian Airlines Austrian Airlines AG is the flag carrier airline of Austria, headquartered in Vienna. It operates scheduled sevices to over 130 destinations. Its main base is Vienna International Airport, with a hub at Innsbruck Airport.[1] In 2006 Austrian had 10 million passengers.  

Austrian Airlines will add a third daily Vienna-Moscow Sheremeteyvo service, operating Monday-Thursday, from June 5. It launched thrice-weekly flights to Ekaterinburg in April, bringing its weekly Russian service to 52 flights. May 23, 2006

Baltia Airlines

Baltia Airlines is set to launch flights from New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 JFK to St Petersburg in Russia. Using a Boeing 747, the startup hopes to break the monopoly enjoyed by Delta Air Lines, which is the only other US carrier offering service to Russia. Baltia is traded on Nasdaq and in Frankfurt. After JFK - St. Petersburg, other New York routes will include Moscow, Riga, Kiev and Minsk. Baltia Air Lines' mission is to be the number one airline between the US and eastern Europe. May 26, 2006

British Airways

British Airways on June 3 adds three additional departures out of Seattle-Tacoma International and Heathrow London. The extra 747-400 flights for the summer will operate on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and give the route 10 departures. May 26, 2006

Excel Airways

Excel Airways is launching in Ireland to offer long haul and short haul charter flights to major European, north African and US holiday destinations. The operation is being run by Bill Smith and Carol Anne O'Neill, who were both senior executives at Irish holiday group FalconHolidays/JWT. Services start in May 2007 with routes including Florida, mainland Spain, the Balearics, Canary Islands, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Cyprus and Egypt. The company says it expects to carry in excess of 65,000 passengers in the first year. May 26, 2006

Flyglobespan

Flyglobespan will launch its first transatlantic service, to Orlando Sanford, on June 2, according to its website. It plans to operate a Manchester-Cape Town flight from November. Meanwhile, it will abandon its 737-800 Glasgow-Amsterdam service June 5 owing to low traffic. It started the route March 24 and recently reduced frequency from daily to four-times-weekly. Lufthansa Systems

Lufthansa Systems also announced it will operate the global wide area network of LSG Sky Chefs LSG Sky Chefs is the brand name of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG, which specializes in airline catering. It is a subsidiary of the German airline Lufthansa AG. Its primary business function is to prepare and deliver meals, beverages and snacks to aircraft for domestic and  and provide all WAN services for the catering company, connecting more than 140 LSG Sky Chefs sites worldwide. Malev, German Regional OLT

Malev and German Regional OLT launched flights between Debrecen and Budapest this month using OLT's Saab 340s operating with Malev flight numbers. In addition, OLT announced it is creating a subsidiary called Civis Air to make it possible for its aircraft to operate with Hungarian crew and be maintained under a Hungarian registration number in Debrecen. Civis to expects carry more than 50,000 passengers to/from Debrecen by 2010. OLT's fleet consists of 16 Saab 2000s, Saab 340s, Metroliners, Cessna 404s and Cessna 208Bs. It also operates twice-daily flights between Budapest and Ljubljana on behalf of Malev. May 22, 2006

SN Brussels Airlines SN Brussels Airlines (SNBA) was a former national airline of Belgium, which mainly operated from Brussels Airport. SNBA was the trading name of the Belgian airline Delta Air Transport. SNBA was a full-service airline, connecting Brussels with the rest of Europe.  

SN Brussels Airlines this week unveiled new inflight amenities on A330-300s that operate from Brussels to 13 African destinations. The first of three aircraft to be retrofitted at a cost of more than [euro]10 million ($12.8 million) is already completed and the remaining two retrofits will be finished by the end of June. SN said the biggest enhancement is new business class seats that are equipped with massage tools and can be transformed into flat beds. Also upgraded for both classes are audio and video equipment.
