AirBaltic

AirBaltic introduced a summer schedule, valid through Oct. 28, featuring nine new destinations available from its Riga and Vilnius bases. From Riga it launched six-times-weekly flights to Warsaw and thrice-weekly service to Bergen on March 26. It will start twice-weekly service to Simferopol on April 11, twice-weekly flights to Tbilisi on May 2, twice-weekly flights to Baku the following day and four-times-weekly service to Liepaja later in the month. Frequencies to 10 cities will increase and flights to London will land at Gatwick rather than Heathrow. From Vilnius, the addition of a 737-500 will help with service increases including six-times-weekly flights to Stockholm (launched March 26), twice-weekly flights to Budapest (started yesterday), daily service to Warsaw and thrice-weekly flights to Dusseldorf, both starting in June. British Jet is to fly to Cardiff from Malta this summer. In fact British Jet is not an airline, but an ATOL bonded tour operator. Nor is it British. British Jet is in fact a front for Malta Bargains Ltd., a company that has been offering holidays to Malta under the previous name of Malta Sun Holidays for the last 23 years. JAT

JAT is expected to decide by the end of this month that it will restart transatlantic service to New York and Toronto. It plans to use two 767-200ERs on the routes. It is also in the final phase of negotiations for the purchase of two Embraer 170s, sources close to the airline said. It will operate two 737-400s, five 737-300s and four ATR-72s on 177 weekly flights to 36 international and three domestic destinations during its summer schedule. Mar 31, 2006

LOT Polish Airlines LOT Polish Airlines (Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT, short name PLL LOT) is the national airline/flag carrier of Poland, based in Warsaw. It operates scheduled passenger and cargo services. Domestic services link Warsaw with ten cities.  

LOT Polish Airlines supervisory board named Polish Civil Aviation Office President Krzysztof Kapis the carrier's new president and CEO. LOT leased a seventh 767, a dash 300ER, for the summer season to increase service to North America. It will offer 16 weekly flights to New York (Newark and JFK) and 11 to Chicago O'Hare. Lufthansa targets U.S. ethnic travelers. Lufthansa, recognizing the opportunity in some 35 million Americans with roots in Eastern and Central Europe, is urging them to return frequently to their homelands for holiday and family events. To succeed, the carrier had to overcome perceptions that its fares were expensive. To accomplish this, it launched WeFlyHome.com, a Web site loaded with travel deals, flight schedules and destination details for Russia, Greece, Israel, India and Poland.
