Six Arab carriers signed an agreement in late January to form Arabesk Group, a consortium "designed to help members realize better commercial potential," according to Arab Air Carriers Organization Secretary General Abdul Wahab Teffaha. Initial members are EgyptAir, Gulf Air, Middle East Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Yemenia Yemen Airways. The group said Tunisair likely will join soon. Formation of the entity was discussed last summer. "The cooperation is already yielding benefits for the individual carriers and is demonstrating that this is a good path for the future, as well as providing value-added service to travelers through better market coverage," Teffaha said. The airlines will cooperate on scheduling, operate codeshare flights and have special prorate agreements during the summer schedule period. Arabesk Group

Arabesk Group, the unofficial alliance of seven Middle East airlines, have formalized their relationship and spelt out what membership of the club means. The founding members, Egyptair, Gulf Air, Middle East Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Tunisair and Yemen Airways, will talk to each other on governance, membership criteria, dispute resolution, commercial activity, operations, financial obligations and ongoing construction of the group. It will develop properties in Dubai and other locations to support the growth of Emirates. Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines began issuing e-tickets on the Addis Ababa-Nairobi sector last month. Further e-ticketing will be launched on routes from Addis Ababa Addis Ababa (ăd`ĭs ăb`əbə) [Amharic,=new flower], city (1994 pop. 2,112,737), capital of Ethiopia. It is situated at c.8,000 ft (2,440 m) on a well-watered plateau surrounded by hills and mountains. Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways will launch a six-times-weekly service to Paris from June 1 aboard A330-200s, a four-times-weekly flight to Dhaka Dhaka or Dacca (both: dăk`ə), city (1991 pop. 6,844,131), capital of Bangladesh, on a channel of the Dhaleswari River, in the heart of the world's largest jute-growing region. It is the industrial, commercial, and administrative center of Bangladesh, with trade in jute, rice, oilseeds, sugar, and tea. from May 3 increasing to five-times-weekly from June 5, and a four-times-weekly service to Casablanca from July 1, also with a dash 200.
