Nov 29, 2006 Delta Air Lines Delta Air Lines yesterday announced yet another employee recall, this one for approximately 200 additional pilots who will rejoin the carrier next year. DL already has issued two recalls for a total of 129 pilots this year. Nov 30, 2006 Delta Air Lines Delta Air Lines said it has received permission from its unsecured creditors to allow an additional estimated $719 million in unsecured, pre-petition claims for nonqualified pension benefits for retired pilots, lifting the total of allowed claims to $800 million. "As a result of this effort, our retired pilots will recover through the claim process a significant portion of their unpaid nonqualified benefits," CFO Edward Bastian said. The bankrupt carrier received permission to terminate its pilot defined benefit pension plan in September. Nov 28, 2006Mesaba Airlines, Northwest Airlines Mesaba Airlines, a regional partner of Northwest Airlines, reached a truce with its pilots, flight attendants and mechanics who ratified contracts intended to reduce the carrier's labor costs by some 15%. The tentative agreements, reached four weeks ago, came after months of acrimonious wrangling between Mesaba management and union leaders from the Air Line Pilots Assn., Assn. of Flight Attendants and Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Assn. The ALPA agreement passed with a 68.4% affirmative vote, AFA's with 82% and AMFA's with 65%. Mesaba President and COO John Spanjers acknowledged that employees had made "considerable sacrifice" to ensure the company's survival and added, "I am confident we will see brighter days ahead." Nov 29, 2006 Northwest Airlines Northwest Airlines flight attendants, represented by the Assn. of Flight Attendants, argued in a US appeals court this week for the right to strike over management's imposition of $195 million in annual concessions. A federal judge issued an injunction in September preventing the flight attendants from engaging in work actions and the National Mediation Board subsequently ordered the two sides back to the negotiating table. Nov 30, 2006 Northwest Airlines Northwest Airlines said it will not renew interline agreements with approximately 50 carriers that do not have plans to offer interline e-ticketing when the accords expire on Jan. 1. NWA currently offers interline e-ticketing with 43 airlines and said, "interline agreements are the final phase in our effort to offer the many benefits of e-ticketing to all of our customers worldwide." It said the 50 carriers "involve a small volume of interline activity" and it will consider new agreements with them if they agree to a satisfactory alternative like Worldspan's e-ticket interchange product.
