Airline's sign of the times.


THE riddle riddle, puzzling question, specifically one that consists of a fanciful description or definition of something to be guessed. A famous riddle was asked by the Sphinx: "What goes on four legs in the morning, on two at noon, on three at night?" Oedipus guessed the  of a secret sign language used by Ryanair has been solved.

Millions of passengers flying on Irishman Michael O'Leary's no-frills airline have been intrigued by the mystery signals passing up and down the cabin between stewards.

Now the sky code used by the hostesses - similar to that used by bookies' runners at racetracks to pass on betting information - has been revealed.

Gestures include doing the "chicken arms" to ask for a chicken sandwich Noun 1. chicken sandwich - a sandwich made with a filling of sliced chicken
sandwich - two (or more) slices of bread with a filling between them
 and pointing to the eye means more ice.

For tuna sandwiches they mime the up and down swimming motion of a fish with their hand and waggling two fingers like dog ears means hot dogs.

A Ryanair spokeswoman said: "The gesturing of our cabin crew cabin crew cabin n (Aviat) → équipage m  is not part of any formal training but it is something that the crews have developed themselves to make the course of their work more efficient and quieter so as not to disturb passengers."
