Airgas to Host Session on Selecting the Optimum Laboratory Gas at PITTCON.RADNOR, Pa. -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :ARG See argument. arg - argument ) will host a session on selecting the optimum laboratory gas at the Pittsburgh Conference (PITTCON PITTCON Pittsburgh Conference ) on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Hosted by John Long, vice president of quality assurance and technical support for Airgas Specialty Gas, the session will help gas users understand how to specify and select the proper grade of gas for their analytical applications. Due to the lack of universal standards, many buyers specify gases by name or grade without a clear definition of what they are requesting. For example, there is no universal standard for a "zero grade" gas. The session also will help gas users understand the "Total Purity Paradox," where greater levels of purity do not always provide better analytical results. Instead, the session will urge gas users to look at the level of impurities that can affect their analytical performance. "Gases are not the biggest cost in the analytical laboratory, but chromatographers tell us they are often their number one headache," said Long. "This session will help reduce those headaches by helping buyers make better-informed decisions." The program will include: --Differences in gas specifications and levels of purity --The types of impurities that affect various analytical processes and how they are measured by gas suppliers --Sampling techniques for measuring impurities - by the cylinder or batch analysis - and what buyers should look for in the analysis The session is one of four that Airgas executives will present at PITTCON. Additional information on the sessions, as well as on Airgas specialty gas product and service offerings, will be available at Airgas booth #4301 during PITTCON, which runs from February 27 to March 4, 2005.
