Company Receives The Tolly Group "Up-to-Spec" Certification for QoS,

Scalability, and Voice Over IP Performance Requirements

Airespace, Inc. today announced that The Tolly Group, an independent testing company, has validated the Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform as an effective solution for the delivery of Voice over Wireless LAN (VoWLAN) services. This is the first-ever hands-on evaluation of a WLAN solution that focused solely on verifying the wireless infrastructure's ability to support real-time applications, such as voice.

The Tolly Group tested the Airespace 4000 Wireless Switch and Airespace 1200 Access Point in their evaluation, which examined a variety of real-world characteristics that are required for the successful delivery of voice services in a business environment, such as scalability, mobility, and performance. The Airespace solution passed all tests with flying colors, earning itself The Tolly Group's coveted "Up to Spec" certification.

Specific areas tested by The Tolly Group that validate the Airespace solution's ability to support voice services include the following:

-- Quality of Service (QoS): The Airespace solution automatically

throttled back non real-time data when voice sessions were

traversing the Access Points (APs), ensuring that acceptable

levels of bandwidth were provided to all voice traffic.

-- Scalability: In The Tolly Group's tests, the Airespace

solution supported up to 14 simultaneous voice conversations

across a single AP without any additional client support,

scaling well beyond the recommended configuration for the

Voice over WLAN gateway. Airespace internal tests prove that

up to 90 conversations can be had per AP when specialized

client software is deployed.

-- Seamless Roaming: The Airespace solution maintained voice

sessions while roaming between APs, even across subnets.

Engineers recorded latencies as low as 31 milliseconds.

-- Real-Time Performance: The Airespace solution demonstrated an

average end-to-end latency (AP to switch to AP) of 3,000

microseconds, which is well above the requirements for

effective voice communications.
