Boeing, Air New Zealand, Rolls-Royce

Boeing, Air New Zealand and Rolls-Royce announced on Sept. 28 a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct a biofuel demonstration flight designed to help accelerate the development of viable and sustainable alternative fuels for commercial aviation uses. Boeing is exploring second-generation biofuel feed stocks and processes that have the potential to reduce greenhouse gases throughout their entire lifecycle. The demonstration flight is planned for the second half of 2008 using an Air New Zealand Boeing 747-400 equipped with Rolls-Royce engines. Boeing is in discussions with fuel-source providers around the globe to identify potential biofuels that are available in suitable quantities for laboratory and jet-engine performance testing and in compliance with stringent aviation requirements. Additional details will be announced closer to the actual demonstration flight date. Sep 28, 2007 Lufthansa Technik Lufthansa Executive Board Chairman August Henningsen, "the new hall will make it possible to design engine overhaul production and processes so as to incorporate the latest thinking on these subjects. As a result and in conjunction with optimization of logistics, turnaround times for engines will be further reduced." Lufthansa Technik expects a 15% increase in productivity in large part owing to more flexible work rules agreed to by union representatives. The hall will be dedicated to its existing portfolio of engines at Hamburg comprising the PW4000, IAE V2500, CFM56 and GE CF6. Sep 24, 2007 Lufthansa Technik Lufthansa Technik intends to invest close to [euro]50 million ($70.1 million) to build a new engine MRO shop in Hamburg that is expected to boost repair capacity from 320 engines per year currently to 400. Construction of the facility, which will have 15,000 sq. m. of floor space, is set to begin next month with the first engine overhaul planned for early 2009. Sep 24, 2007 Nordam Group, General Electric Nordam Group signed an exclusive seven-year repair and overhaul agreement for General Electric CF6-80C2 thrust reversers with China Airlines under which it will perform all major bonding repairs and overhauls at its recently expanded Singapore repair facility while supporting CA's execution of component maintenance manual repairs with on-site training and equipment. Sep 24, 2007 Rockwell Collins, Redifun Simulation Rockwell Collins and Redifun Simulation, a Texas company, announced today that they have settled claims by Rockwell Collins that proprietary and copyrighted images and models were used by RSI. Sep 28, 2007 SR Technics  SR Technics will provide nose-to-tail C checks and a modification program on Scandinavian Airlines' fleet of four A330s and seven A340s. Sukhoi, Snecma

Snecma, part of French conglomerate Safran, teamed up with Russia's NPO Saturn to build the Sukhoi Superjet's engines. French firm Thales is providing avionics. "They are moving forwards and bringing in the resources. When this gets going it will really get going," said Philippe Petitcolin, head of French engine firm Snecma. Key to the project's success or failure, according to analysts, is Italian firm Alenia Aeronautica, which took a 25 percent stake in Sukhoi's civil division. Its task is to coordinate after-sales service, seen as crucial for winning airline contracts. Asked whether Sukhoi might open its civil subsidiary to other investors or a stock market flotation, Pogosyan said: "Everything is possible." Sep 26, 2007 Volvo Aero, Emirates Airlines Volvo Aero Services entered into a five-year agreement with Emirates whereby it will become the exclusive distributor of the airline's spare parts. Under the agreement, Volvo will open a spares distribution center in Dubai. The logistics services will be managed by Volvo Parts on behalf of Volvo Aero Services. Sep 25, 2007
