Jetmakers prepare for Asian air show. Boeing will market its long-range jetliners at the Asian Aerospace Asian Aerospace (AA) is an international trade fair for the aerospace business. It had been based at the Changi Exhibition Centre near the Singapore Changi Airport, it is the biggest airshow event in Asia, and was touted by its organisers as the "world’s second most  2006 show next week in Singapore. Boeing rival Airbus expects Asian carriers to be the biggest buyers of large planes by 2023. Airbus and Boeing will also compete for orders for mid-sized jetliners. Feb 17, 2006

Wing on superjumbo jet snaps during stress tests. The wing of an Airbus A380 superjumbo jet snapped during factory stress tests, the company said. Airbus said the first deliveries due by the end of the year will remain on schedule. Airbus will be able to show that the aircraft, which seats 550 people, meets safety requirements, a spokeswoman said.

Competition for freighters heats up. Airbus is finishing its A380F freighter and is preparing to compete against Boeing in the very large cargo jet market. Airbus expects 400 new large freighters to be sold through 2023. Boeing's latest offering in its cargo line is the 747-800F.

No successor in sight for Boeing's 737. Boeing has not decided whether to develop a plane to replace its efficient 737. Boeing executives say they have not yet found a "compelling replacement." "It is a very high hurdle," said Randy Baseler, Boeing's vice president for marketing. Feb 14, 2006

Pratt & Whitney to make parts for GE engines. Pratt & Whitney is expected to announce today that it will produce parts for General Electric's popular jet engine, the Wall Street Journal reports. Its first customer is United Airlines. United said the arrangement will reduce its maintenance costs.
