Turboprops turboprop: see turbine. are generating renewed interest from airlines just a few years after many industry players predicted their demise in the face of the invasion of regional jets, experts said yesterday during a webcast. Turboprops "have made a comeback," Meridian Aerospace Group President Bill Gardner said. "They've become pervasive again...I don't think operators are turning away from regional jets. I think they're revisiting whether it was a good idea to get rid of turboprops." May 11, 2006

Bombardier

Qantas said it will open a QantasLink base in Canberra Canberra (kăn`bərə), city (1991 pop. 276,162), capital of Australia, in the Australian Capital Territory, SE Australia. The Canberra urban agglomeration includes a small area in New South Wales. The federal government is the largest employer in Canberra; there are also printing and service industries. and increase capacity on flights to Sydney "by more than 12%" as it places its sixth 72-seat Q400 on the route in August. It will add another Q400 to the service in October. It currently operates a 50-seat Dash 8 on the route. The move will create at least 30 jobs in Canberra. May 9, 2006

South African Airways last week took delivery of the first of two Q400 turboprops. The 74-seat aircraft will operate from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein Bloemfontein (blm`fŏntān'), city (1991 pop. 300,150), capital of the Free State and the judicial center of South Africa. and George. May 10, 2006

Embraer launched a Chinese version of its corporate website as part of its ongoing effort to gain a foothold in the burgeoning Asian market. It has an ERJ ERJ - Embraer (stock symbol)

ExpressJet announced Friday that it will retain 69 regional jets removed from its capacity purchase agreement with Continental Airlines and use them to "pursue various strategic options outside the...agreement." Continental notified its largest Regional partner in January that the aircraft--25 ERJ-145LRs and 44 ERJ-145XRs--would be taken out of the Continental Express network after the two sides failed to reach a financial agreement on their continued deployment. At that time, ExpressJet CEO Jim Ream said he hoped to find a suitable partner for the aircraft, which are leased from CO. May 8, 2006
