Aircraft News - Africa / Middle East.Sep 10, 2007 BAE, Saudi Arabia BAE, Saudi Arabia expected to sign deal for 72 fighter jets. BAE is poised to close a deal with Saudi Arabia that will have the defense contractor supplying the Middle Eastern nation with 72 Eurofighter Typhoon jets for about $40 billion. Negotiations were complicated by an investigation by the British Serious Fraud Office, with the Saudis threatening to pull out if the investigation continued. The British government shut down the investigation. Sep 7, 2007 Emirates Airlines, Boeing Boeing and Emirates completed the delivery of the airline's first 777-200LR Worldliner this past Friday. Boeing's 777-200LR is the world's longest-range twin-engine commercial jet and Emirates is one of the largest operators of the 777 family. The airline's first of 10 777-200LRs on order is shown here departing Paine Field during flight testing. Emirates placed an order for 24 777-300ERs, 10 777-200LRs and 8 777 Freighters at the Dubai Air Show in 2005. This new aircraft also represents the 50th Boeing 777 to have joined the fleet of the multi award-winning airline. Sep 5, 2007 Emirates Airlines, Boeing The Boeing 777-200LR will make its debut for Emirates on the airline's non-stop Dubai to Sao Paulo route which will be launched on 1st October 2007, representing the first non-stop air link between the Middle East and South America. The same aircraft type will also be used on the Dubai - Houston service which begins on 3rd December. Passengers will enjoy onboard Emirates' Boeing 777-200LR which is equipped with eight luxurious private suites in First Class, 42 of its latest lie-flat seats in Business, and generous space for 216 passengers in Economy. Sep 5, 2007 Jordan Airline Training Jordan Airline Training and Simulation, formerly the training subsidiary of Royal Jordanian but now a privately held company offering simulation and training to a variety of customers from its facility adjacent to Queen Alia International Airport outside Amman, inaugurated an A320-200 full flight simulator Sunday that is the first Thales FFS to meet Airbus Standard 1.4.0, allowing it to replicate a variety of A320 tail numbers. Sep 5, 2007 Oman Air, Airbus Oman Air will lease three Airbus aircraft as part of its plan to launch new long-haul services in November, the Arab Air Carriers Organization confirmed. The first two aircraft, an Airbus A330 and an A310, will arrive in October. The A330 will operate to Europe while the A310 will fly on Middle Eastern routes and to Bangkok and other destinations. Sep 4, 2007 South African Airways, Boeing South African Airways said it will realize "significant cost savings" following renegotiation of several service contracts and grounding of two of its six 747-400s, with the remainder to follow in the coming months. South African listed renegotiated ground handling and baggage agreements with Senegal Handling Service and Optima, a new telephony deal with Transtel, a new contract with warehouse and logistics provider Kintetsu World Express and a terminal switch in Hong Kong as key to its restructuring. It said it is on its way to cutting management staff expenses by 30%.
