Airbus Consortium Selects Parametric Technology Corporation as a Strategic Technology Partner for Enterprise Product Data Management Solutions.

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1998--

Windchill Selected for All Future Aircraft Projects

Parametric Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:PMTC), developer of the Windchill(tm) family of enterprise information technology products, announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with The Airbus Consortium of Toulouse, France, providing Windchill technology to all future aircraft programs.

This decision complements the existing deployment of Parametric Technology's CADDS(R)5 and Pro/ENGINEER(R) CAD/CAM/CAE software solutions on the A340-500 and 600 aircraft programs.

The Airbus Consortium includes principal partners Aerospatiale SA (France), Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG (Germany), British Aerospace PLC (UK), and Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (Spain). Created in 1970, Airbus has developed a complete family of short, medium, and long-haul aircraft, with seating capacities ranging from 124 to approximately 400 seats. In its 28 years of operation, The Airbus Consortium has booked a total of more than 2,850 orders and delivered over 1,720 aircraft to its international customers.

"Parametric Technology is pleased to be declared the partner of choice in a strategic partnership with Airbus," noted Steven C. Walske, chairman and chief executive officer at Parametric Technology. "The commitment and innovation of both companies over the last year -- underpinning the A340-500/600 programs and through our Board of Customer Advisors Program (BOCA) -- have been integral to the development and implementation of Windchill.

"Windchill technology has opened up the opportunity to extend the benefits of this partnership through the Airbus extended enterprise," Walske added. "This includes the supply chain, enabling Airbus to considerably reduce aircraft program lead times and costs. PTC looks forward to partnering with Airbus to increase market share in our respective industries by leveraging Windchill's Web-centric technology."

PTC's Pro/ENGINEER and CADDS 5 product development tools have been successfully used by Airbus on the A340-500 and 600 aircraft programs. The Airbus Concurrent Engineering (ACE) team, working closely with PTC, has established a core technical capability known as an ACE version, which underpins Airbus strategy to deliver competitive advantage to its customers.

"Airbus has fully endorsed PTC's acquisition of Computervision," said Dr. Schneider, ACE sponsor chairman. "Parametric Technology now provides the most comprehensive range and quality of information management and CAD product definition solutions in the market. Our early and continuing involvement in the development of Windchill clearly demonstrated that it is best in class and years ahead of any competitor.

"Airbus will deploy Windchill on all future aircraft programs," Schneider added. "We are committed to consolidating on these successes and further developing our partnership to our mutual benefit. PTC is an integral partner for Airbus to deliver the quality products required by our customers."
