Airadigm Launches PCS System in Appleton, Wisconsin, Using Ericsson as Network Provider.

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1997--Ericsson Inc. today announced that Airadigm Communications, Inc. has launched its Einstein Personal Communications Services (PCS) system in the Appleton, Wisconsin, area using GSM-based PCS 1900 network equipment and services under a supply agreement with Ericsson Inc.

Airadigm is the first C-Block (small business) PCS licensee to provide service in the United States. The company's markets include 15 Basic Trading Areas, covering most of Wisconsin and part of Iowa.

Ericsson is Airadigm's sole network equipment provider, supplying mobile switching centers, base station controllers, base stations and the MXE messaging system as well as equipment installation, testing and commissioning services.

The Ericsson MXE messaging system functions as a Short Message Service (SMS) Center with the GSM system. Subscribers can take advantage of voice and fax mail notification as well as remote access. The MXE also interfaces to an automated SIM card application for over-the-air activation.

Ericsson is also providing Remote Network Management services, including Remote Network Management System Administration, Remote Fault Management and Remote Performance Management, from Ericsson's Network Operations Center in Richardson. Some of these activities include system monitoring, identifying and correcting alarms, measuring network quality and analyzing the performance of the network.
