AirTran Airways' traffic, measured by revenue passenger miles (RPMs), was down 1.3 percent in January 2002, versus the prior year on a 4.2 percent increase in capacity as measured by available seat miles Available seat miles (ASM) is a measure of an airline flight's passenger carrying capacity. It is equal to the number of seats available multiplied by the number of miles flown. This measures an airlines capacity for transporting passengers.  (ASMs), resulting in a load factor of 62.8 percent - 3.6 points below January 2001. The airline enplaned 637,787 passengers in the month of January 2002.
