ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2001

AirTran Airways announced today the continuing suspension of all flying through at least Wednesday, September 12. AirTran Airways is working closely with U.S. government officials to determine when the nation's air transportation system will once again re-open.

When flights are resumed, the following additional security measures will be instituted:

-- Passengers only will be permitted through airport security checkpoints.

-- All passengers will be required to show a printed ticket, boarding pass or
e-ticket reservations receipt, along with a valid, government-issued photo ID
(such as a driver's license or passport) at airport security checkpoints in
order to proceed to the departure gate.

-- If a passenger does not have a printed ticket, boarding pass or e-ticket
reservations receipt, the passenger must go to the airport ticket counter to
check in and get a boarding pass in order to proceed through the security
checkpoint. Passengers may also call 1-800-AIR-TRAN to receive a reservations
receipt via e-mail or fax.

-- Curbside baggage check-in has been suspended. All bags must be checked at an
AirTran Airways ticket counter.

-- Please allow for extra time at the airport to comply with the increased
security measures. We recommend that you arrive at the airport at least 90
minutes before your flight departure time.
