AirTran Airways Names John Kirby Director of Network Planning.

AirTran Airways today announced that John Kirby has been appointed director of network planning. In this position, Kirby will be in charge of strategic planning, aircraft scheduling, alliances and operational analysis.

Kirby most recently served as manager, resource planning for US Airways. His primary responsibilities consisted of route and frequency planning, and schedule development. Kirby's experience includes acting as group leader for the MetroJet Task Force, facilitator for the On-Time Departure Audit Task Force, and project manager for Sabre integration.

Prior to his work with US Airways, he held various planning positions with Northwest Airlines. Through these positions, Kirby gained extensive experience in systems development, which includes US Airways' Schedule Development Environment (SDE) systems, QSI modeling and the Bell Labs Schedule Optimizer Model.

Kirby began his career as a sales associate with People Express Airlines in 1983. He earned a BA degree in 1986 from Montclair University in Upper Montclair, N.J.
