James Nathaniel Brown (born February 17, 1936) is an American former professional football player who has also made his mark as an actor and social activist.
 as director of corporate communications. Reporting jointly to Joe Leonard, chairman and chief executive officer, and Bob Fornaro, president, Brown will oversee the airline's internal communications and external public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  efforts.

Brown has been involved in the airline industry for 15 years in various reporting and communications capacities. He previously held corporate communications positions at Trans World Airlines Trans World Airlines, commonly known as TWA, was a major American airline company that was acquired by American Airlines in April 2001. For many years it was headquartered at the Kansas City Downtown Airport, as well as midtown Manhattan in New York City.  and American Airlines and for nearly a decade reported on the airline business for industry publications such as Aviation Daily and World Airline News.

Prior to Brown's appointment, Tad Hutcheson, the airline's director of marketing, served as interim spokesman. Hutcheson, a respected member of AirTran Airways' leadership team, is focusing his attention to the airline's marketing efforts and is assuming responsibility for AirTran Airways' consumer relations department.

Systemwide, AirTran Airways operates 298 daily departures to 31 cities.
