The third largest city in the state, Tampa has long been a shipping and manufacturing hub on the Gulf Coast. service with the addition of new daily nonstop service to the Florida State capital of Tallahassee Tallahassee (tăləhăs`ē), city (1990 pop. 124,773), state capital and seat of Leon co., NW Fla.; inc. 1825. It is a wholesale trade and distribution center for the surrounding lumber, livestock, and agricultural area. The additions include three daily nonstop flights between Tampa and Tallahassee and three daily nonstops between Tampa and Miami. Service begins November 15, 2001, and tickets are now available for purchase. With these two new non-stop markets in addition to the existing non-stop service to Philadelphia, Gulfport/Biloxi and its Atlanta hub, AirTran Airways will now offer five non-stop destinations from Tampa International Airport with connections to 24 other cities. AirTran Airways is offering special introductory fares as low as $30 each way to celebrate the new service. All introductory fare tickets must be purchased by November 14, 2001, and travel must be completed by January 15, 2002. Introductory fares are available at airtran.com only and require a seven-day advance purchase.
