AirTran Airways Announces Flight Speed Reservation System; Second High-Technology Initiative of `Tech Innovation Week'.

These initiatives are designed to leapfrog many longstanding business technologies and to help enhance AirTran Airways' position as an innovative force in the U.S. air travel industry.

The Need for Flight Speed

AirTran Airways today announced a final agreement with Navitaire Inc. to upgrade its reservations system to Flight Speed, a suite of technical solutions developed for the travel industry. The new system, which is expected to deploy on April 28, 2001, will bring increased speed, reliability and ease of use for AirTran Airways reservation agents.

Flight Speed enables reservation agents to experience a user-friendly program that will more quickly and easily process booking information, such as travel destinations, flight times, client contact information and payment options. Navitaire will host the new reservations system in its state-of-the-art data center in Minneapolis. This arrangement will afford the airline with increased security and dependability.

"We chose Flight Speed to enhance our reservations system because it will make AirTran Airways work faster and better," said AirTran Airways Vice President and Chief Information Officer Rocky Wiggins. "This is a very smooth system that will require less training for agents and, at the same time, enhance service for our customers."

Navitaire, an Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting See Accenture. ) Technology Venture, is the current reservation system provider for AirTran Airways. Since 1993, Navitaire has created and provided information systems for a customer base of approximately 50 airlines, including nine of the world's 25 largest.
