As the launch customer, the Boeing 717-200 will enable AirTran to thrive well into the 21st century. The Boeing 717 twinjet, originally launched as the MD-95, is designed to meet airlines' needs for an efficient aircraft to serve high frequency, short-to medium-range routes.

The Boeing 717, which is similar in size to the DC-9, features a five-across coach-class seating arrangement. In addition, AirTran customers will benefit from the oversized o·ver·size

AirTran has a firm order for 50 Boeing 717-200's,which will begin delivery next summer and continue through 2002. Following the initial order, AirTran has an option to purchase 50 additional planes.
