However, this is not just any site. In fact, visitors to the lodge won't even know it's there. That's because this particular transmission site looks like three ordinary flag poles in front of the lodge.

The three flag poles that make up this AirTouch Cellular transmission site will be instrumental in providing Deer Valley with the cellular coverage needed to meet the huge consumer demand expected in 2002.

But even prior to the Olympics, visitors to the area will benefit from the improved cellular service at the lodge. Bikers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts can feel confident that they can escape to the mountains and still be reached in the case of an emergency.

"We're very proud of this site and have received high compliments from the Park City Planning Commission on our efforts to meet customer demand and be sensitive to the desires of the community," said Griffith. Not only are the antennas neatly concealed in the flag poles, but the hardware is housed in a very compact building out of view.

"Because of the mountainous terrain, it is difficult to locate a site so precisely as to provide good in building service, but with the antenna/flag poles right there at the lodge, cellular service in the building and in the area will be greatly improved," said Pete Fettig, director of network operations for AirTouch Cellular in Utah and Idaho.
