AirTouch Cellular Message Phone streamlines tools for keeping in touch; Callers can choose paging or message options even if phone is off.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1995--Now staying in touch is even easier with the AirTouch Message Phone, a new flip phone from AirTouch Cellular - Los Angeles that combines cellular, paging and voice mail capabilities all in one.

Utilizing Display Messaging, a new service available to AirTouch Cellular subscribers, the AirTouch Message Phone receives and stores pages, short messages and voice mail, even if the subscriber's cellular phone is in use or has been turned off. Audible beeps indicate when a message is received, so customers can save both time and airtime costs by only checking messages when notified. The Message Phone also eliminates the need for subscribers to carry both a pager and a cellular phone.

The AirTouch Message Phone is priced at $129.00 from AirTouch Cellular after a $25.00 activation rebate. Display Messaging is available with the AirTouch Message Phone and other "message ready" cellular phones including several Motorola models in the Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento markets. This new service, offered at $9.95 per month in addition to regular monthly cellular service costs, provides AirTouch subscribers with the added convenience of both a single number and a single monthly bill for cellular, paging, messaging and voice mail services.

When callers reach the Display Messaging menu, they can choose to enter a telephone number that serves as a digital page, leave a private voice mail message, or select a specific message from a short menu of options, such as "call home" or "call office." AirTouch Display Messaging subscribers are notified as soon as they turn on the phone or complete the call currently in progress. There is no charge to subscribers when callers use the various Display Messaging options.

Display Messaging lets users return page messages instantly by pressing the SEND button on the AirTouch Message Phone, which immediately dials the phone number that has been entered. Subscribers can also store and scroll through messages to return calls according to priority.
