AirSoft Offers Powerburst to VARs Through New Powernet Reseller Program.

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 1995--AirSoft, Inc., creators of an innovative remote network node (networking) network node - (node) An addressable device attached to a computer network. If the node is a computer it is more often called a "host".  acceleration solution, Powerburst, today unveiled its new value-added reseller A value-added reseller (VAR) is a company that adds some feature(s) to an existing product(s), then resells it (usually to end-users) as an integrated product or complete "turn-key" solution.  (VAR) distribution program designed to give VARs a value-added, high-performance remote access technology that dramatically improves application response times for remotely connected users.

Through the new AirSoft Powernet program VARs will be able to offer their customers Powerburst to improve remote network access performance by six times or more.

Powerburst is a unique data caching software solution designed specifically to address the latency (1) The time between initiating a request in the computer and receiving the answer. Data latency may refer to the time between a query and the results arriving at the screen or the time between initiating a transaction that modifies one or more databases and its completion.  problems associated with remote and dial-up network (1) The switched telephone network regulated by government and administered by common carriers.  connections. Powerburst's unique architecture consists of two software components: the "Client," a Windows-based software program that is installed on the remote workstation, and the "Agent," a DOS-based program which is installed on a dedicated computer that interfaces with the file server.

, the Powerburst Client and Agent apply AirSoft's advanced patent-pending caching algorithms to eliminate redundant file system calls, thus minimizing the amount of network traffic generated between the applications and file server. The net result is a more efficient data link that delivers four to six times faster performance.

"Powerburst gives us value-added technology that we can bring to our existing customers without having to add new equipment," said David Hodges This article is about the musician. For information on the character, see David Hodges (CSI).

access for wide area networks and environments where there are remote applications in addition to remote nodes. We not only believe Powerburst will be an important part of our current remote node strategy, but it could offer significant enhancements as AirSoft and our customers move to new platforms, like Windows 95."

"Powerburst is going to make remote node operations feasible in many more customer installations," said Roger Buchanan, President Data Accessories of Minneapolis. Powerburst removes the limitations of remote node configurations. It also opens up new markets and helps us tap customers we were unable to support before."

Since Powerburst is transparent to all network applications, it can accelerate access for virtually any file system-based network application. The advantage Powerburst offers is that it reduces network latency See latency.  so remote users achieve performance close to that of a local node. Powerburst is also inexpensive to deploy, easy to manage, and fully compatible with all remote node servers, including servers from 3Com, Cisco, Novell, Shiva, Telebit, Xylogics, and other vendors.

"We have more than 34 years of experience providing LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network  solutions, and many of these customers require remote access," said Gerald Roszkowski, Vice President of Sales for Data Processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a  Sciences in Indianapolis. "There have been situations where a customer can't justify a remote node configuration because of the amount of time required to access data. With Powerburst, we are confident that response time is no longer an issue. Powerburst is an ideal solution for our existing customers and it allows us to approach a wide range of new customers."
