AirMagnet Enterprise Integrates More Tightly with Popular Wi-Fi Platforms and Blocks New Threats; AirMagnet Enterprise 5.1 Includes Cisco Integration and Ad Hoc Blocking.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- AirMagnet, the leader in wireless LAN (WLAN) security and performance solutions, today announced improvements to its market-leading Wireless Intrusion Prevention System (WIPS). AirMagnet(TM) Enterprise 5.1 includes improved integration with Cisco's WLSE v2.9, Cisco's RDEP security protocol, and automated blocking of laptops running in ad hoc mode. Enterprise 5.1 also adds SmartSensors with removable antennas, ideal for customers deploying wireless outside. AirMagnet also announced that it shipped product to its 3,000th customer and completed its ninth consecutive quarter of sequential revenue growth and profitability in December.

AirMagnet Enterprise 5.1 includes two new points of integration with Cisco products. The first ties to Cisco's wireless management application, known as Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE). WLSE integration allows AirMagnet to automatically add Cisco-managed access points (APs) to the Enterprise 5.1 Access Control List (ACL), which tracks known devices. This exchange of data quickly eliminates known Cisco devices from the rogue and intrusion detection lists within AirMagnet--freeing administrative resources to focus on unauthorized devices that could be potential security breaches.

A second integration point integrates Enterprise 5.1 with Cisco's Remote Data Exchange Protocol (RDEP)--which provides visibility and status to the CiscoWorks security management suite. RDEP integration provides joint AirMagnet and Cisco customers with streamlined and cost-effective network management as well as a comprehensive view of the wired and wireless network.

Other improvements in Enterprise 5.1 include:

--Ad Hoc Blocking: End users can easily turn their laptops into unsecured APs by turning on ad hoc mode, a standard Wi-Fi feature. This violates the security policy of most corporate customers, however. Enterprise 5.1 extends beyond detection and location of ad hoc users, and can now automatically block ad hoc stations from acting as APs.

--SmartSensors with removable antennas: These allow customers to connect specialty Wi-Fi antennas to AirMagnet SmartSensors, such as directional or high-gain units, instead of the standard omnidirectional antenna. This will allow AirMagnet customers to choose specialty antennas for outside use or to match the aesthetics of their retail locations.

AirMagnet Enterprise is the first wireless intrusion detection and prevention solution to extract managed device list data from Cisco WLSE for ACL management, helping AirMagnet to effectively and automatically protect Wi-Fi networks. AirMagnet Enterprise can automatically trace, locate and block rogue APs on the wire as well as through the air. In addition, its map-based location services help administrators find and physically remove unauthorized devices. Using RDEP, AirMagnet Enterprise can escalate security problems through CiscoWorks for immediate action. For example, AirMagnet Enterprise can identify wireless "Man-in-the-Middle" and dictionary attacks, notifying CiscoWorks in real time to contact administrators or take automated defensive action.
