These different software components might be classified according to the functions within the Open Systems  application called the PhoneBook rounds out the AirGo Phone System. The PhoneBook lets users track contact information and download up to 100 names and numbers to the PhoneCard. The new AirGo Phone System is the only product to leverage the promise of the PC Card standard to provide true integration between cellular phones and portable computers.

AirGo PhoneCard Combines Smallest Cellular Radio With Data/FAX Modem

The PhoneCard is a Type III PC Card which contains an IS-19B compliant AMPS cellular radio with a 1/4 wave monopole antenna A monopole antenna is a type of radio antenna formed by replacing one half of a dipole antenna with a ground plane at right-angles to the remaining half. If the ground plane is large enough, the monopole behaves exactly like a dipole, as if its reflection in the ground plane  and a 14.4 data/FAX modem. The PhoneCard is a cross-platform solution which can be used in Macintosh or IBM-compatible PC A PC that is compatible with the IBM PC and PS/2 standards. Although this term is still used, it had validity in the early days when PC makers were trying to copy the IBM PC, and many PCs were not compatible. Today, PCs conform to standards set by Intel, Microsoft and the PC industry at large.  Card-equipped laptops, notebooks and PDAs.

While the PhoneCard is docked in a portable computer, users can place and receive voice calls, and send and receive data, FAX or paging messages wirelessly without the need for additional cabling and equipment; a swivel antenna is the only component of the PhoneCard which is visible outside the portable computer. Users can also communicate through a landline connection if desired.

The PhoneCard includes an earphone See earbuds.  jack, allowing users to connect any compatible earphone for cellular and landline voice communication leaving hands free for keyboard operations. This hands-free solution is perfect for users who need to collaborate with co-workers on a document while carrying on a conversation via the PhoneCard.

Voice view operation allows users to send voice or data transmission via the same connection; termination of a voice call is not required in order to make a data call since both can be done via the same connection and during the same call.

The PhoneCard's V.32 bis 14.4 modem features a standard AT command set for flexibility in choosing communications software packages, V.42 bis error correction and data compression data compression

The PhoneCard's cellular radio features Carrier A or B capabilities, dual NAM and a removable swivel antenna for increased flexibility.

AirGo CardPhone Provides Additional Portability

When the PhoneCard is not being used in a laptop, users can dock it in the Type III PC Card slot A socket for inserting a printed circuit board or a PC Card (CardBus card). For example, an iPod docking station charges the iPod and connects it to a computer, speakers or TV set.  for the PhoneCard, the CardPhone offers users the convenience of normal cellular phone conversation while eliminating the need for additional cellular phone numbers.

The CardPhone includes a 97 by 32 dot matrix LCD which allows display of four rows of 16 characters each. Users can access up to 100 names and numbers stored in the PhoneCard and view them on the CardPhone's LCD display.

This provides a convenient method of recording and accessing addresses even when the PhoneCard is not docked in a laptop. The LCD also provides real-time information on signal strength, roaming, battery power and volume level.

The CardPhone includes a 1000 mAH battery providing 90 minutes of talk time and 22 hours standby, and features on-board rapid charging logic eliminating the need to carry battery charging stands. The battery can be charged while in use, using a standard wall charger or via a cigarette lighter adapter.

In addition, the CardPhone features alphanumeric memory capability, automatic redial In telecommunication, an automatic redial is a service feature that allows the user to dial, by depressing a single key or a few keys, the most recent telephone number dialed at that instrument. , quick dial, own number display, last digit/all digit clear capability, security locking, PIN code security, emergency call override, three ringer volume selection, anykey answer function and an earphone jack via the PhoneCard.
