Company Expects Subscriber Growth

and Roaming Revenue to Exceed Expectations

AirGate PCS, Inc., (Nasdaq/NM:PCSA), a Sprint PCS (NYSE:PCS) Network Partner, today indicated that, based on preliminary information and internal projections, it is revising expectations for the fourth fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2000 as follows:

-- Net subscriber additions ("net adds"), a key indicator of the Company's
performance, are expected to be approximately 30,000, or 75% higher than the
third fiscal quarter.

-- Roaming revenue is forecasted to be at least $7.5 million for the fourth
quarter of fiscal 2000.

-- ARPU is expected to stay constant with the third fiscal quarter at
approximately $54.00.

-- Churn, net of 14-day returns, is expected to be 3%, consistent with the
third fiscal quarter.

-- Capital expenditures are expected to be approximately $25 million, primarily
due to the accelerated expansion of coverage.

-- EBITDA losses, excluding non-cash compensation expense, are expected to be
approximately $17.0 million for the fourth fiscal quarter.
