AirDefense Integrates its 'Self-Managing' Wireless Protection System with Cisco Aironet Wireless LAN Infrastructure.

ATLANTA -- Integrated Solution Provides Improved Security and Simplified Management

AirDefense, the leader in Anywhere, Anytime wireless security and monitoring, today announced the integration of industry-leading AirDefense wireless intrusion detection system This article is about the computing term. For other uses, see Burglar alarm.

An intrusion detection system (IDS) generally detects unwanted manipulations of computer systems, mainly through the Internet.

"Enterprise-class wireless infrastructure must be properly configured and secured, and must support strong encryption An encryption method that uses a very large number as its cryptographic key. The larger the key, the longer it takes to unlawfully break the code. Today, 256 bits is considered strong encryption. As computers become faster, the length of the key must be increased.  and authentication (1) Verifying the integrity of a transmitted message. See message integrity, e-mail authentication and MAC.

(802.11i recommended). Wireless monitoring and IDS ensures that the infrastructure remains secure and in compliance with corporate policy and regulatory requirements," said John Girard, vice president for leading industry analyst firm Gartner, Inc. "Integration of a comprehensive and reliable wireless IDS with a robust wireless infrastructure provides customers the best of both worlds."

"With the rapid growth of intelligent WLAN devices and increasing customer concern about wireless perimeter security, Cisco is pleased to expand our product offering by working with AirDefense," said Bill Rossi, vice president and general manager of Cisco's Wireless Networking See wireless network.  Business Unit.

The AirDefense "self-managed" wireless protection system integrated into the Cisco Aironet WLAN infrastructure offers many benefits to network and security managers. First, it enables the use of Cisco Aironet Access Points as sensors to provide monitoring data to AirDefense Enterprise servers. Second, it reduces deployment and operational support cost through automated synchronization (1) See synchronous and synchronous transmission.

"As a large customer of Cisco wireless infrastructure and AirDefense wireless IDS, we saw a significant benefit in bringing together the two products to build a more secure wireless network," said JD Fluckiger, computer protection program manager of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is one of nine United States Department of Energy (DOE) multiprogram national laboratories. . "The integration of these two major solutions should lower costs and improve security by enabling flexible deployment of IDS capability and will reduce the cost of deployment and on-going management as well as increase the level of security."

The AirDefense security and monitoring system is based on patent-pending technology that incorporates distributed sensors with a server appliance A self-contained computer system specialized for network use. Its applications are pre-installed, and access to setup and configuration is via a Web browser. Server appliances may provide a single application or several applications; for example, a single device may provide file server, . The remote sensors monitor all wireless LAN activities 24x7 and communicate with the appliance, which correlates and analyzes the data to provide scalable, centralized management of all WLAN deployments by providing rogue detection, policy enforcement, intrusion protection and health monitoring of the wireless LAN. The AirDefense solution has been deployed in more than 300 distributed enterprise networks worldwide.
