Oakland International Airport (IATA: OAK, ICAO: KOAK, FAA LID: OAK), also known as

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is a heavy rail public rapid-transit system serving the San Francisco Bay Area.
 (BART) system will provide free transit on the AirBART airport shuttle An airport shuttle is a shuttle bus that transports airline passengers to and from a commercial airport. Passengers wait at the shuttle stop for the bus to arrive, and at appointed areas where shuttle pick-up and drop-off are allowed at the airport.  on December 30 and 31, 1999.

From 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight on Thursday, December 30 and Friday, December 31, all AirBART riders can ride the shuttle between Oakland International Airport and the Oakland Coliseum BART station free-of-charge.

"We want to show our appreciation to our loyal AirBART riders for their support throughout the last decade and into the next millenium," said Director of Aviation Steve Grossman. "This is also a good opportunity for new customers to find out how convenient the service is."

AirBART is a joint-venture of the Port of Oakland The Port of Oakland was the first major port on the Pacific Coast of the United States to build terminals for container ships. It is now the fourth busiest container port in the United States; behind Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Newark.  and BART, established in the early 1980's. More than 500,000 travelers ride the AirBART shuttle annually.

Oakland International Airport is the only Bay Area airport with a dedicated connection to BART. AirBART shuttles run every 10 minutes between the airport and the Coliseum BART station from 6:00 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and from 8:00 a.m. to midnight on Sunday. One way fares are $2.00 per adult and $.50 per child/senior/disabled person.

Oakland International Airport served more than 9.5 million passengers and handled nearly 700,000 metric tons of air cargo air cargo: see aviation.  in fiscal year 1998 (July 1, 1998 to June 30, 1999). The airport is a revenue division of the Port of Oakland, an independent department of the city of Oakland.
