AFPN American Forces Philippines Network (former AFRTS network in the Philippine Islands
) -- The president designated Pete Geren to be the acting secretary of the Air Force on July 29, replacing Michael L. Dominguez Michael L. Dominguez is the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness within the United States Department of Defense. He has held that position since his confirmation by the United States Senate on July 11, 2006. . The appointment is in accordance with the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, Air Force officials said.

Geren, who was special assistant to the secretary of defense, assumes his new office as directed in Title 10, United States Code Noun 1.  and Air Force directives, Air Force officials said. He took the Department of Defense post in September 2001 with responsibilities in the areas of interagency initiatives, legislative affairs, and special projects.
