LEADING THE WAY FOR DECADES

For more than 25 years, Air Products has been a leading producer and supplier of emulsions to the nonwovens industry. In fact, over the years the company has introduced many firsts, including the development of the first high efficiency binders for air laid operations; the first series of high-performance, low-formaldehyde emulsion binders and the establishment of the first air laid pilot machinery facility in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. . Our latest environmental first is the introduction of "Airflex" 192DEV, a high efficiency, vinyl acetate-ethylene binder that is alkyl alkyl /al·kyl/ (al´k'l) the monovalent radical formed when an aliphatic hydrocarbon loses one hydrogen atom.

Systematic names include 1-acetoxyethylene and acetic acid ethenyl ester.  monomer monomer (mŏn`əmər): see polymer.

New product development, environmental leadership and cost-effective, high performance products are examples of Air Products' commitment to providing its customers with the best solutions to address the dynamic nature of today's nonwovens markets.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE EMULSION TECHNOLOGY

Air Products produces high-performance "Airflex" vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE n. 1. See Voe. ) emulsions, Airflex ethylene-vinyl chloride (EVCL) emulsions and "Flex-bond" acrylic polymers for a wide range of nonwoven non·wo·ven

applications. The VAE binders provide a combination of wet strength, absorbency, durability and soft hand; the EVCL emulsions, which provide high dry and wet tensile strength and good abrasion resistance, benefit the nonwovens industry because of their fire-retarding characteristics and the acrylic polymers are chosen by nonwoven manufacturers when wash durability and/or low-odor characteristics are required.

Ultra-Low Formaldehyde: One of the biggest issues facing nonwovens manufacturers today is cost-effectively reducing formaldehyde levels in products in the workplace. New product developments at Air Products have resulted in the design of binders that offer both high-performance characteristics and ultra-low formaldehyde levels - 80-90% below other traditional binders. Additionally, these emulsions run well on process equipment without fabric blocking, have FDA FDA

Air Products is still the one and only company that can provide a complete line of low-formaldehyde emulsion binders - including VAE's, EVCL's and acrylics.

FIRST-CLASS TECHNICAL SERVICE

Designed specifically to provide unmatched technical service and support, Air Products' air laid pilot facility is a complete system capable of manufacturing finished emulsion-bound air laid nonwovens. The pilot facility is used to test emulsion binder performance on a customer's particular application, enhance binder performance and conduct exploratory work on new binder chemistries. These capabilities help lessen risk, reduce start up costs and shorten the time to go to the commercial marketplace.

The pilot facility, centrally located at the company's corporate facilities, is supported by Air Products' highly regarded technical capabilities, including emulsion synthesis, process research, analytical labs and application and technical service.
