, the airline to Middle-earth, is offering a special web-only airfare starting at $848. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was filmed in spectacular locations throughout New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  and this airfare allows visitors to explore regions used for filming. Although the movie is fictional, the location is not and all of New Zealand is Middle-earth.

Visitors can choose to fly into Auckland, for $848 from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  or $960 from San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden . Arrivals into other New Zealand cities, including an Auckland stopover, start at $948 from Los Angeles and $1,060 from San Francisco (from 30 June). These fares are for travel commencing 01 March - 14 June 2004 and from 19 July - 30 November. Auckland is the gateway to Middle-earth and seven other city options served as gateways to, or locations where one or more of "The Lord of the Rings" films were shot. Flights to these and other destinations may be added for only $30 per sector. Ticketing deadline is 30 April 2004, for travel commencing 01 March through 30 November 2004.

These airfares are for roundtrip travel between Los Angeles and Auckland or San Francisco to Auckland, the gateway to Middle-earth, on Air New Zealand operated flights, minimum stay is 6 days, maximum stay is one month. Tickets must be issued on or before 30 April 2004.

While in New Zealand visitors can explore the regions used for filming - a trip that will take them from mountains and volcanoes to farmland and forests.
