Air New Zealand Launches Round-the-World Freighter Service With Lufthansa German Airlines.

 Cargo announced the launch of a "round-the-world" freighter service for New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  importers and exporters with Lufthansa Cargo Lufthansa Cargo is the cargo airline subsidiary of Lufthansa based in Frankfurt, Germany. It is an international air freight and logistics company operating worldwide services. Its main bases are Frankfurt International Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport [1]. , using MD11 freighter aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines.

"We have a strong relationship with Lufthansa on the passenger side of the business, as partners in the Star Alliance," said Air New Zealand Ansett -- Australia Group The Australia Group is an informal group of countries (now joined by the European Commission) established in 1985 (after the use of chemical weapons by Iraq in 1984) to help reduce the spread of chemical and biological weapons by monitoring and controlling the spread of  president and chief executive officer, Gary Toomey. "This new arrangement promises similar benefits to the cargo side of the business."

Toomey explained that the arrangement will expand the markets that Air New Zealand can serve worldwide. Air New Zealand Cargo will have the majority of the capacity from the United States and from New Zealand, with the lesser amount from Frankfurt, Germany, and Melbourne, Australia.

Services are planned to commence on March 28, 2001 and will operate three times weekly from Frankfurt. They will provide continuing support for New Zealand importers and exporters to and from Germany, flying on a Frankfurt-United States-Auckland-Melbourne-Malaysia route.

Routing details are as follows: New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 (twice weekly) or Chicago (once weekly)-Los Angeles-Papeete (technical stop)-Auckland-Melbourne-Penang (twice weekly) or Kuala Lumpur (once weekly)-Pakistan-Frankfurt.

Services will depart in the evenings: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Frankfurt; and Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays from Auckland.
