L'Air Liquide S.A. (Air Liquide
 Shanghai, and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.'s (Allentown, PA) subsidiary, Air Products and Chemicals (China) Investment Co., Ltd., have signed an agreement to form a 50/50 joint venture to be named Wuxi-Hi-Tech Gases Co., Ltd. The company will be based in Wuxi-an industrial region approximately 250 kilometers from Shanghai. An air separation unit, with a daily capacity of 430 metric tons of liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon argon (är`gŏn) [Gr.,=inert], gaseous chemical element; symbol Ar; at. no. 18; at. wt. 39.948; m.p. −189.2°C;; b.p. −185.7°C;; density 1.784 grams per liter at STP; valence 0. , will be built late next year.

Wilbur Mok, general manager of Air Products China, said, "[The company] has successfully utilized the joint venture concept elsewhere in Asia in achieving the most cost-effective supply position for our customers. We are pleased to be able to serve the needs of the industry in this rapidly growing region."
