Air Liquide America Makes Acquisitions in Texas.

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 1996--Air Liquide America Corporation announced today three acquisitions which will strengthen its position as a full-service supplier of industrial gases in key Texas markets. Total sales for the acquisitions are $9.1 million.

The acquired operations are:

-- Action Welding Supply, a retail supplier of industrial gases, welding supplies and safety equipment with stores in Irving and Grand Prairie, Texas This article is about the city in Texas. For the city in Alberta, Canada, see Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Grand Prairie is a city in Dallas County (USA), with a significant overlap into Tarrant County, and a minor overlap into Ellis County.
;

-- The Odessa and Lubbock, Texas “Lubbock” redirects here. For other uses, see Lubbock (disambiguation).
Lubbock is the 10th-largest city in the state of Texas.[1] Located in the northwestern part of the state—a region known historically as the Llano Estacado
 facilities of The BOC (Bell Operating Company) One of 22 companies that was formerly part of AT&T and later organized into seven regional companies. See RBOC.  Group, which market bulk and cylinder industrial gases and welding supplies;

-- Lincoln Welding Supply, a distributor of industrial gases and welding supplies with locations in Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas Port Arthur is a city in Jefferson County within the Beaumont-Port Arthur metropolitan area and is situated in southeast Texas. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the city had a total population of 57,755. .

"These acquisitions will help us better serve our customers as a single-source supplier for both industrial gases and equipment," said Edgardo Martinez, vice president, Air Liquide America. "Our customers will benefit from access to retail stores focused on local needs, backed by the wide product lines and global resources of Air Liquide America."

The purchase of Action Welding Supply will expand Air Liquide America's retail operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from three locations to five, enabling the company to better serve new and existing customers of both companies.

The BOC acquisition, combined with Air Liquide America's existing operations in the area, will make the company the only full-service supplier of industrial gases in the Lubbock-Odessa area. Air Liquide America currently operates three retail branches, four plants and two CO(2) pipelines for enhanced oil recovery Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a generic term for techniques for increasing the amount of oil that can be extracted from an oil field. Using EOR, 30-60 %, or more, of the reservoir's original oil can be extracted [1] compared with 20-40% [2]  in west Texas and New Mexico.

By acquiring Lincoln Welding Supply, Air Liquide America will be able to expand its customer base in Texas' Golden Triangle beyond the major oil refineries and chemical plants it now serves to include the industrial construction contractors who service the plants.

The acquisitions are in keeping with the strategy of Air Liquide America to strengthen its position in the cylinder business in selected geographical areas.
