Air Force Enhances Network Efficiencies; Telos to Lead Deployment of Adaptive Thresholding and Performance Profiling Solution.

ASHBURN, Va. -- United States Air Force network operators will soon possess enhanced information necessary to better manage their networks thanks to an automated network performance monitoring solution. Using the Air Force's Network Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract vehicle, the Combat Information Transport System program office awarded Telos(R) Corporation a contract worth up to $7.4 million to design, install and train Air Force network operators in the use of the Adaptive Thresholding & Performance Profiling (ATPP) solution.

The solution automates what is currently a manual monitoring process by providing network operators with real-time system performance alerts. The ATPP program will alert network operators when system performance on network devices is negatively impacted by stress causing them to exceed established operating thresholds. It also monitors performance over a specific length of time and provides network administrators the data necessary to establish and adapt the operation thresholds they use for performance alerts.

Retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Jim Morehouse, NETCENTS program manager for Telos, explained that access to mission-critical applications is improved by automating the monitoring of Air Force network performance. "The Air Force's Global Combat Support System, for example, is one of the most vital web-based applications running on Air Force networks today. It provides the warfighter with timely, accurate and secure Agile Combat Support information needed to execute the Air Force mission," said Morehouse. "If individual clients trying to access that application receive delayed responses, mission effectiveness could be compromised. This ATPP solution provides 24/7/365 monitoring of all network system performance and immediately notifies system administrators of problems with network performance."

The ATPP solution will be installed at each of the Air Force's ten major command (MAJCOM) network operations security centers (NOSCs), which are responsible for network management and information security of all Air Force information technology assets; three labs responsible for the validation of design and operational troubleshooting of Air Force networks; and the Keesler Air Force Base, network operations training center.
