Air Force, Navy exercise option for 3 production JPATS aircraft.


WICHITA, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1996--The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy recently exercised a $43.8 million Lot II option for three production Beech MkII aircraft for the Joint Primary Aircraft Training System Joint Primary Aircraft Training System, usually just called JPATS, was an aircraft procurement program of the United States in the 1990s by the USAF and USN, a merger of 1980s era training aircraft programs.  (JPATS JPATS Joint Primary Aircraft Training System

) program.

Also included in this option are technical manuals, associated data, and Aircraft Structural Integrity Program and Engine Structural Integrity Program airframes for use in cyclic testing.

This is the first lot option exercise for production aircraft under the JPATS program. These three production aircraft will be delivered in early 1999, according to according to

 funding of $15.8 million. The Lot I phase of the program consists of one Manufacturing Development MkII aircraft, including development, testing and certification.

As part of the Manufacturing Development phase, Raytheon Aircraft is conducting a competition for the Ground Based Training System (GBTS GBTS Ground Based Training Systems

) including simulators, courseware, classroom materials, and a fully integrated training integration management system.

Other tasks included under the Manufacturing Development phase are the development of the Aircraft Structural Integrity Program, developing technical manuals, conducting initial cadre pilot training, preparing associated data and site activation.

The Lot II option brings to four aircraft the total number ordered to date, including the Manufacturing Development aircraft and three production Beech MkIIs. It is expected that the Air Force and Navy could order up to 711 production aircraft under the JPATS program.

The manufacturing site will be a new 191,000-square-foot, $11.5 million building to be built on Raytheon Aircraft's Wichita manufacturing campus. It will be complete in early 1997.
