Airline to Be Able to Easily Link Worldwide Branch Offices and Enhance M&E System

Air China, the flagship carrier of the People's Republic of China, has hired Unisys to establish a network infrastructure linking its headquarters in China with 18 branch offices around the world.

Unisys will build a new infrastructure that will let Air China connect business-critical applications in an open architecture, boosting the airline's productivity. Air China has also awarded Unisys a contract to provide maintenance and engineering (M&E) consulting services.

The infrastructure project calls for replacing the airline's existing proprietary system, which currently only handles reservations. Air China's business-critical applications -- such as frequent flyer, financial control, and front-end reservation systems -- will be connected when the new infrastructure is in place.

Unisys will coordinate a worldwide team to deliver installation and infrastructure managed services for the 18 branches, as well as provide 24x7 support for the infrastructure. Unisys will partner with Air China's control center in Beijing.

Air China is emphasizing the importance of M&E management because of increasing competition and a demand for greater productivity. Air China is working with Unisys to reassess and develop a high-level strategic plan for its M&E system.

Unisys will deliver a consulting report that includes reviewing Air China's existing processes and procedures, identifying business improvement areas, defining new systems requirements, providing direction for the airline's M&E division, and anticipating the impact on other departments within Air China.
