BACKGROUND:
A record 40 teams have entered Metropolitan's
fourth annual Solar Cup program, making it the
nation's largest solar boat program at high school
and collegiate levels. Thirty-two teams will
participate Saturday; eight teams completed their
boats on Dec. 3.
Teams are given workspace under large tents, boat
kits, instructions and a tool chest. Later, with
$3,000 donated by local sponsors, they will equip
the boats with solar-powered electrical systems,
steering and other necessities.
