Ahmed goes down fighting to Toledo.

GERALD Toledo edged past Yaqoub Ahmed 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-4 in an exciting men's singles match of the 61st Indian Club Open Tennis Championships at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) courts in Juffair.

There were 11 matches on the first day of the championship being organised by the Indian Club in co-operation with BTC.

Veterans Cassius Periera and Nasser Khonji picked up identical 6-3, 6-3 wins over Ajay Arora and Ronald Anacin respectively in the same age group category.

Also in the men's singles, Hamad Al Fardan faced a tough challenge from Mamdooh Mubarak before winning 7-5, 6-3.

On the second day, a total of 10 games took place, including nine in the men's singles and one in the boys under-18 singles which saw top player Omar Qaed ease past Saayed Agha 6-0, 6-0.
