Agranat Awarded US Patent For Embedded Web Server.


Agranat Systems Inc. of Maynard, Mass., received a patent on Oct. 26 for its "EmWeb" embedded Web server Web server software embedded within a hardware device such as a print server. It is widely used in a myriad of devices, because it allows access to the software via any Web browser, typically for configuring the device or obtaining reports. See ETI and Web server.  technology which enables microprocessor-based devices to be accessed, configured and managed by any Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. . EmWeb is used to Web-enable a wide variety of products, including datacom and telecom systems, office peripherals, test and measurement equipment and industrial controls. It consists of a suite of products that make it easy for OEMs to develop Web management capabilities for their products. Agranat execs say EmWeb offers "a highly efficient, fully scalable server and the only compiled environment available," as well as "guaranteed interoperability and two-way security Two-way security is a term for a conversation (usually a telephone conversation) between two people where encryption and decryption take place at both ends, ensuring a secure line.  with the latest Web standards." A growing number of options include a mini TCP/IP stack that doesn't require an OS, e-mail for device status notification, and SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  integration that allows access to existing SNMP objects without writing new code. A tool kit lets developers quickly build sophisticated GUIs, and a CLI (1) (Call Level Interface) A database programming interface from the SQL Access Group (SAG), an SQL membership organization. SAG's CLI is an attempt to standardize the SQL language for database access.  option streamlines development of highly-customizable command-line interfaces.
