William Dunn faced the agonising decision to switch his wife's life support machine off after she contracted MRSA MRSA Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. See MARSA. . Mrs Dunn, 72, from MacDonald Street, Wavertree, had gone into hospital after complaining of pains in her back and was discharged a week later. When the pain worsened, she went to hospital again, was treated for pneumonia and given antibiotics. Mr Dunn, 74, said in the following days his wife's condition deteriorated, she developed breathing difficulties and was taken to the intensive care unit but never regained consciousness. Doctors told her family she had contracted MRSA and, although it later emerged that Mrs Dunn had breast and bone cancer, her family believe the superbug su·per·bug n. Any of various disease-causing bacteria that develop a resistance to drugs normally used to control or eradicate them. superbug contributed to her death.
