"Although we're small, we're mighty," artistic director Erich Yetter says of the eight-member Peoria Ballet, which turned 40 this year. The company's anniversary gala on April 23 will feature something old and something new: a revival of Les Sylphides Les Sylphides is often confused with La Sylphide, another ballet of similar name, also involving the mythical sylph, or forest sprite.  Trust, the addition of Valse Fantasie to the repertoire is the result of a rigorous application and audition process with former New York City Ballet New York City Ballet, one of the foremost American dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded by Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine as the Ballet Society in 1946.  principal Violette Verdy. With guests from Miami City Ballet Miami City Ballet was created in 1986 with former New York City Ballet principal dancer Edward Villella helming the company. The Miami City Ballet flourishes as one of America's most respected Balanchine-style based ballet companies.  Jennifer Kronenberg and Carlos Guerra performing the "Rubies" section of Jewels, the gala closes what has been an exceptional year for the Illinois company-proof that some things only get better with age.
